Kamala Harris was not only not a radical, but she ran on basically being a diet republican. It’s disconcerting that are options are right or super right. I’ll always hold space in my heart for the radicals of America. The black panthers who made sure kids ate. The Harvey Milks of the world who harkened in a safe haven for gay people.
This is so beautifully put and vindicating to read. I'm a southern Californian and while of course that comes with it's own special brand of cultural baggage, I really appreciate the way you illustrated this weird californian-american paradox--in so many ways our state is or has been the epitome of americana, frontierism, aspirational capitalism, but that of course also comes in direct opposition to this protestant work ethic vision--the coasts are these weird smoke screens or portals for the rest of the country to project on their fantasies and nightmares alike and none of it really reflects the lives of the real people who actually live, work, and organize there.
thank you so much, friend ❤️ californian-american is such a perfect way to name the identity so many californians have taken on: separate while connected to the larger country. they seem to simultaneously resent and revere us for being the “epitome” you named: so glad you mentioned frontierism!!! hope to see some cool socal lit from you soon ❤️❤️🔥
The only thing Kamala gave us that past election was « I’m lowkey one of yall » republican
