I never knew the medicinal utilization of pomegranate! really interesting idea of connecting cultures within this geographical range along with their similar struggle for reproductive choice.
Thank you so much for this deeply necessary critique of how mainstream feminism often overlooks or misrepresents Women of the Pomegranate— these powerful women from regions rich in culture, yet viewed through lenses of contradiction by those who should be in solidarity with them. As someone privileged to live in a state with access to reproductive care, it’s humbling to consider the struggles of women in areas where such rights are denied or under constant threat. The call for a borderless feminism, rooted in radical community care, is a reminder that our movements can’t just be about our own comfort or progress, but about collective liberation. The metaphor of sharing pomegranate seeds is such a powerful reminder that we all have a responsibility to listen and learn from those who’ve been fighting battles much harder than our own.
my second ever tattoo was a pomegranate to remind me that i 1) will be handled gently and 2) own every part of my body. this piece is beautiful, thank you for speaking of the ancestors w such tenderness
We are so illiterate about many things, including our own sexual health.
If a woman does not own her body, she is not in control. If a woman is dependent on state-regulated medicine to protect herself, she is not in control. If a woman cannot make decisions about her own reproductive choices (law), she is not in control. A woman is never free - unless she stands up for herself. Because the future of a country depends on it. Targeting women means targeting the heart of a society.
beautiful words beautiful intersectional connections jade!! long live the women of the pomegranate 💌 my friend and i were working on a similar piece re: herbalism, indigenous srh care, etc and i love love that other repro girlies are sharing this vital knowledge
